Flux WordPress Hosting

Flux WordPress Hosting

What is Flux?

Flux is a decentralized infrastructure project aka DePIN. The project utilizes what they call Flux Nodes to host a plethora of decentralized application aka dApps. One such app is WordPress evolving the Web from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0 by providing a scalable feature set that is secure and resilient.

But why not just use a service that runs on the cloud?

The Cloud can be controlled

Traditional web hosting can still be robust and resilient by utilizing technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes to run applications in containers for quick scaling. However at the end of the day it is controlled by a large company with interests and pressures that could bring censorship to their platform. Decentralization makes this very difficult for government or entities to censor or take down websites. With the data residing on several different nodes, the only way to really cause a long term disruption is the control of DNS. However your data would still remain and a new DNS record could point to your dApp. Utilizing a service such as Flux allows another safeguard against big brother having their way.

Lower Total Cost

Utilizing DePIN means you don’t need to run on expensive servers located solely in a large datacenter. Flux Nodes can have somewhat minimal requirements to run a particular dApp resulting in a lower cost to the consumer. For example at the time of writing the article SquareSpace is charging $25/month for webhosting service. In comparison, the basic Flux plan is only $5.99/month and easily upgradeable to the next tier of service for $9.99/month.

Improved Resiliency

Traditional hosts run on centralized servers in their high cost datacenters scattered around the country or world. In most cases your data will reside in one datacenter. If there is a security breach or natural disaster you are subject to your application going dark.

Utilizing Flux Node structure means your data is on multiple instances of hardware scattered around the network. If one node goes down, another simply takes over quickly to keep service running. Currently there are over 12200 Flux nodes running that are available to service the needs of the consumers. Node operators are also incentivized to run nodes on resilient hardware. The better the hardware and the more Flux that is staked on the platform, the more rewards the operator will receive.

Your Data is More Secure

Decentralized data also mean distributed data. Making it inherently more difficult for hackers and other malicious actors to gain access to your data. This simple structure layered with many other measures such as cryptography, 2FA, and IPFS ensure there are layers of security to get past even if you were to compromise one.
